Whitman Park is located in Camden, New Jersey. The community of Whitman Park consist of about 1000 homes. For the past five years, Second Chance has been serving the community of Whitman Park. Our first project in service to Whitman Park was the launching and management of a South Jersey Food Bank food distribution program called the “Hope Mobile”. From the beginning of our commitment, Second Chance has continued to sponsor additional help measures. Working along collaboration with United Neighbors of Whitman Park (community base organization), local churches and concern residents, we have continued in our goal to develop and cultivate a better living environment and opportunities for the residents of the community. Our focus for Whitman Park is to continue to provide additional opportunities for both youth and adults three key components:
- Community Advocacy-Development of an coalition of local churches, businesses and organizations to develop a plan to address at large concerns of the community.
- Community Development- Provide programs and service to address education upward bound programs, employment readiness, youth & family services, safe streets campaigns and spiritual discipleship.
- Community Stewardship– Help sponsor activities that promote community beatification in conjunction with resident residents. Projects such as neighborhood cleanups, community gardens and tree plantings.
