Christmas In Camden
Who says Christmas can’t strike twice in the same place. In December the Water Tower served as the location for two fun filled events. Both parents and children enjoyed two events that celebrated Christmas. On December 19th, Focus for Youth hosted a Christmas Celebration Party. This party was supported by United Neighbors of Whitman Park, Toys for Tots, the Jackson Project and Camden Prep. The children were treated to activities and a presentation on the Birth of Jesus by Dee and Brent Allen. To conclude the evening, food, gifts and books were distributed to all the children in attendance.
On Christmas Eve, the community came out but so did the rain. It rained and it rained. Yet it did not damper the enthusiasm of the children or the efforts of the event organizers. Youth of all ages received bicycles, toys, coats, gloves and hats. Hot dogs, hot chocolate and special treats in the form of ginger bread cookies and chocolate covered pretzels were distributed to all. Bibles were given and communion was offered to all who accepted. This event was sponsored by the Jesus Ministry. Each year they select a different neighborhood within Camden to give out gifts and share message of the birth of Jesus. Yes it rained on Whitman Park that day, but also it rained seeds of hope. Each seed planted in the hearts of the community that will always be appreciated and hopefully will never be forgotten.
